Brown Butter Layer Cake with Nutella Frosting

Never in my life had I felt this sore. Maaaan, this is painful.

But it was so darn worth it. I’m still unable to move properly, but I’ve already decided which half-marathon I’ll run next, and I’m eager to go back to training again.

And do you know what makes finish a half-marathon x1000 times better?? Having this cake to eat when you get back home, this stuff is awesome!

I used my recipe for Brown Butter Greek Yogurt Cake, which is probably the best recipe you’ll find in this blog up to date. I’m not kidding, that cake might just be the best thing ever: moist, buttery and even healthier than most. And hey, healthy cake that also tastes amazingly has never hurted anyone, specially if you’re covering the whole thing in Nutella Frosting.

And by Nutella Frosting I mean “The Very Best Frosting on Earth”. Creamy, nutella-esque (because it is an adjetive, duh) and thick, you can’t ask for anything better.

I have a container with the leftovers in the freezer andt rust me when I say that it’s super dangerous, because practically it is like nutella ice-cream that never freezes solid… Dangerously awesome, I’d say.

But you know it’s gotta be an awesome recipe if it’s from Sally’s Baking Addition. I really appreciate it when bloggers try the same recipe over and over again in order to make it flawless for us readers, and with her recipes, you know that they’ll always turn out perfect!

And regarding the brown butter cake, you guys know that I’ve  made that one at least 7 seven succesful times, so I ensure you it is a great recipe to add to your line-ups. It tastes so delish that it makes me want to test the recipe again so I know it’s a reliable one (and I can have another slice that way too HE HE!).

Sorry for the short, non-relevant post, by the way. This was meant to be a break I took from studying for tomorrow’s History exam, so let’s say I’m not very inspired right now (burnt brain-cells anyone?). Though it’s not as if I was going to have any more free time this week, so I guess I’d write the post right now. This week is going to be exhausting I tell you gah.

Muscle soreness + not being able to go for runs + history exam + homework = CRIES

And sorry for the quality of the pictures too. Daylight saving time is going to ruin my life ugh. There’s never decent light now!

And it’s dad’s birthday on Thursday, and I’ll have to cook some kind of dessert for him (good news guys, I’m getting him to like dessert!). I’ve already thought about what I’m making for him, but I can’t tell you know, because he reads this blog (hi dad!) and I want it to be a surprise 😉

I’ll leave you with the recipe now. I hope you enjoy it!

The Nutella Frosting recipe is not mine, I got it from Sally's Baking Addition.

Leftover frosting can be frozen and it will still taste awesome.

Your cake looks fabulous Consuelo and I especially like those nice big slices you cut! I think your pictures turned out great. I know I for one am really struggling to take good pictures now that the lighting has changed so much. Can’t wait to see what you make for your dad’s birthday.

    • Reply Consuelo November 6, 2013 at 10:42 pm

Oooh I still don’t like the pics though :( But thanks!!
Yeah, it will be long until I get the hang of this new lightning :(
You’ll have to wait, I just burnt the batch of cookies I made for him :( But I’ll make him something bigger and better this weekend 😉

I really hate that there is never decent light too. That’s definitely the worst thing about winter!
Good luck on your further half-marathon-training!

What a beautiful cake! Love nutella – love the idea of pairing it with browned butter. I would actually consider getting off my ass and doing some form of exersise for this. I don’t think I could do a marathon, half or otherwise though. Much admiration to you for doing it :-) Love the big pieces, they would be much appriatiated in my house!

    • Reply Consuelo November 7, 2013 at 4:19 pm

It’s a combo worth running marathons for! haha

I was just complaining about day light savings time to my husband…definitely not convenient for a food blogger. 😉
Kudos for running a half marathon! I’ve done a 3K once in Hartford, CT. I never used to like to run until I met my husband. Now I love it. But I mostly do it for exercise. I don’t do races, but I’d love to do another 3K again.
Ok, can we talk about this cake!! I love everything about it…the cake looks delicious and moist…the frosting (well, it’s frosting and nutella…need I say more), and I love how you frosted it too. I made a cake last weekend. I’ll be posting about it next week, but it doesn’t look as beautiful as yours. :)

    • Reply Consuelo November 7, 2013 at 6:21 pm

      Aren’t they terrible? :(
I first started running to exercise, but now I’ve grown to love it and it’s my favorite thing to do now! 😉

Nutella buttercream…my mouth is watering!! Isn’t daylight saving frustrating when you are trying to take photographs?! We usually start out with dark and overcast skies. Waiting for nice natural lightly can be so frustrating!

    • Reply Consuelo November 8, 2013 at 9:56 pm

Yeah, it gets on my nerves :((
Thank you so much, Cindy! x

  • Reply Jamie@Milk N Cookies November 8, 2013 at 6:43 pm

I understand the frustration with trying to take food photos when it’s dark outside! I usually make 3-4 desserts on the weekend, because if I try to take photos during the week, they all end up terrible (in fact, I just posted a recipe for what we ate last night for dinner, and the recipe is great, but the photos are crummy. Oh well!)

Anyway, congrats again on your race. And this Nutella buttercream looks absolutely incredible. Nutella is already so decadent, and I can only imagine how much it would be improved with the additional of fluffy whipped cream. Yum!

    • Reply Consuelo November 8, 2013 at 9:58 pm

That’s so me! I only get round to cook “pretty” food on the weekend. And if I try to take photos on a weekday, tehy always end up terrible because I’m super stressed and I don’t feel like photographing… and you know how it’s impossible to take beautiful pics if you don’t mean it, right? :(
((Anyway, I think your pizza looked amazing, I just saw it in my phone and it’s so cuuute!))
Thank you so much! Yeah, pretty much everything is improved with the addition of whipped cream! x
